Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide have exclusive casting news for upcoming January episodes of Fringe.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Olivia's sister, who Olivia was on the phone with at the beginning of the Fringe episode Safe, will be played by Ari Graynor. Graynor is most recently know for her role in Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, as well as a minor role in The Sopranos. Graynor's character will be crashing with Olivia while she deals with some personal trouble.

'Fringe' Exclusive: Look who's playing Olivia's sis!
by Michael Ausiello

How's this for a top-secret Fringe twist: Olivia's got, like, the coolest sister ever! Sources confirm to me exclusively that rising star Ari Graynor, who played Meadow's college roomie on The Sopranos and, more recently, won raves for her hilarious turn as Kat Dennings' boozy BFF in Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, has been tapped to play the younger sister of Anna Torv's Olivia. Graynor will appear in a minimum of three episodes, the first of which airs in January. Per a Fringe insider, Graynor's character pays Olivia a surprise visit and ends up crashing at her place for a few weeks. "She's dealing with some man trouble back home," the insider explains. "But the exact nature of that trouble isn't clear." 'Lil sis also has a 'lil travel companion: a daughter. Anyone out there see Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist? If so, I'm guessing you're as jazzed about this casting coup as I am.

TV Guide reports that former Dawson's Creek alum Mary Beth Peil will be making an appearance on the show, as Jessica Warren. Warren is the mother of the lab assistant killed in Walter's Lab, who shows up after finding out that Walter was released from St. Claire's.

TV Guide Exclusive: Get Ready for a Dawson's Creek Reunion... on Fringe!
by Mickey O'Connor

(Cue up that annoying Paula Cole song)
I don't want to wait/for our lives to be over...
(OK, that's enough.)

Would it be too embarrassing to reveal how much of a touchstone Dawson's Creek was on my own Massachusetts upbringing? Yes? It would? OK then, never mind.

Instead, let me reveal exclusively that there will be a Dawson's Creek reunion on Fringe! In an upcoming episode, Mary Beth Peil, who played Jen's loyal Grams on Creek over five years and 128 episodes, will cross paths with Joshua Jackson's Peter Bishop. (Jackson, of course, made his name as smartaleck Pacey Witter on Dawson's.)

Peil's character, Jessica Warren, is important to the Fringe mythology. She's the mother of a young woman who was killed 20 years ago in an explosion at Walter's lab, the incident that led to his incarceration. Jessica shows up when she finds out that Walter has been released from the mental institution.

Peil's episode is scheduled to air in January.
